Older Western Cart.....What's the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly?

First post here. Preparing for my first used cart purchase. Pretty handy and love to tinker on things. Thought I'd ask those more qualified and experienced with these older Western carts.

Found this older Western golf cart for sale locally. It is fully registered in CA with plates and registration. This is a BIG deal for those of us that want to use a GC in state parks.

https://orangecounty.craigslist.org/....html

It is an older cart....according to current owner....he believes it is a .

According to current owner.....It was registered as a as the numbers on the VIN placard are hard to read and it appears original owner registered it as a instead of as is more likely the correct year of the cart.

Questions: What's the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly?

1. What type of motor does this have?
2. Is it reliable?
3. Power to climb hills, with 3 people?
4. Are parts available?
5. Can it be modified for additional power (ex. convert to 48V)?

My uses....

CA State parks

Campgrounds, RV parks, etc., primarily in Southwest (CA, NV, NM, AZ, etc)

Around my neighborhood to teach my 15yo son with Autism how to drive (he will never be able to get a driver's license but this would be cool for him to learn to drive.

Thanks!

If you continue the plates and registration allowing him to operate the vehicle will put you in a touchy legal area, and you did mention California, where all the lawyers hang out. I'm not trying to be a poop, but with plates on it it may as well be a car in the eyes of your neighbors. People suck.

Good point on the plates if he were to use. Obviously he would never be alone, but it will be plated making it a vehicle and an unlicensed driver. The plates are needed for state parks and street use. May just have to limit his teaching/use to dirt fields, parking lots, etc.

But the golf cart itself......is it one to totally stay away from? It appears clean and well taken care of. As mentioned....licensing/plates in CA are a big deal is used as I intend. I wouldn't pay that for that cart they cost $40 to license it you'll need seatbelts probably a new windshield which that one doesn't have, the batteries are only going to last you another year or two. There's all kinds of aftermarket parts for the newer carts you can get them up to 35 miles an hour if needed the old carts are probably 12 to 13
