Tonneau covers are one of the most popular accessories for truck owners. They give your truck a sleek style while also serving a functional purpose. Tonneau covers allow you to more securely store materials and equipment in the bed of your truck, adding serious cargo space for your vehicle. These accessories come in a variety of styles, from roll-up covers, retractable covers and hard tonneau covers. We explored the pros and cons of tonneau covers in a previous post. If you’ve decided that this is a truck accessory that you’ve got to have, it’s important to understand the maintenance that comes with owning a tonneau cover. They can be very costly, therefore it’s imperative to take care of your investment to ensure it lasts for the life of your truck. Explore these 5 key Tonneau cover maintenance tips:

A simple preventative measure is to consistently check the condition of your tonneau cover. Some specific things to check for are “scratches, bumps, dents, lodged debris, looseness and corrosion. If you spot anything out of the ordinary, early on, you’ll be able to stop it from snowballing into a costly issue” according to Red Line. Also, it’s important to check for these conditions so you know not to wash or scrub your tonneau cover in those areas to avoid making them worse.
Prior to washing your tonneau cover, be sure to inspect all mounting hardware and clips. This will prevent them from being torn off or causing other serious damage to the cover while you’re cleaning it. In addition to checking the hardware, consider regularly sliding and fully closing your cover to ensure it operates smoothly, even when you’re not actively using it. “… If that’s not the case, lubricate the rails to prevent any unwanted traction and wear.” (4 Wheel Online)
The proper way to wash your tonneau cover depends on the type of cover, as well as the material of the cover. In general, if you’re washing your cover by hand, use “cold water and a mild soap such as Simple Green, or a specialty Tonneau cover cleaner, and gently scrub the Tonneau cover from the cab to the bed with a soft bristle car wash brush. Then, rinse the cover with cold water again, and dry it with soft cotton cloths or sponges.” (Street Directory)

It’s important to avoid leaving heavy gear on top of your Tonneau cover for prolonged periods of time, regardless of which type of cover you have. According to 4 Wheel Online, “doing this can cause sagging and/or permanent damage. Always refer to the manual that came with the tonneau cover for proper tonneau cover maintenance, weight ratings, and if it is absolutely necessary to stack items, spread them out as evenly as possible.” If you have additional questions, reach out to the manufacturer where you purchased your cover, for advice.
Did you know? Certain silicone-based cleaning products, such as Armor All, can actually deteriorate the adhesives used in specific types of tonneau covers? It’s true! It’s important to never use vinyl cleaners, “such as those made for cleaning the dashboard, as they contain grease and solvents that will accelerate deterioration or fade the color. ONLY if you have a vinyl cover should you use a vinyl cleaner to keep it looking new and working properly.” (Street Directory)
Tonneau cover maintenance allow you to better protect both your new cover as well as your truck bed and your cargo. They can also safeguard your vehicle against weather elements like messy snow and sleet. Furthermore, they enhance the look of a truck. It’s important to properly maintain your tonneau cover, to ensure it lasts as long as possible. Explore additional information on tonneau covers on our blog >

GENERAL FAQ
Simple. Where else can you get a retractable, ball bearing, solid aluminum, powder coated, key lockable truck bed cover that looks this good for this price? Vinyl tarps are $400 or more and they aren’t even secure. One piece hard lids are heavy, expensive and restrict hauling larger cargo. Other retractable designs use plastic or vinyl and have inflated prices due to the markup from multiple layers of distribution.
Peragon is located in Northern Wisconsin. Our cover was engineered and tested in the area’s bitter cold, so it performs very well even in ice and snow.

LANDMARK™ RETRACTABLE COVER
We use only solid -H32 tempered aluminum – no vinyl, plastic or foam. The one-piece rigid panels are engineered with integral stiffening ribs for a finished panel height of 3/4″. The aluminum thickness is a robust 14 gauge, which is 1/16″ thick and quite dent resistant. We’re often asked how the aluminum panels handle hail. Your Peragon bed cover will not be damaged by hail that will damage the sheet metal on your truck. Hail large enough to dent your Peragon bed cover will cause heavy damage to the rest of your truck – making your bed cover the least of your concerns at that point!
The aluminum panels then have a satin black powder coat or XRP™ Matte Black powder coat baked on at over 400 degrees for a tough-as-nails finish.
Our solid aluminum design offers robust protection for your cargo. It is engineered to support evenly distributed weight such as snow. However, it is not designed to walk on or to haul cargo on. Think of our cover just like you would the hood of your truck. The hood is rigid and strong, but you wouldn’t walk on it.
The Peragon cover will support up to 50 pounds of concentrated weight like a cooler or tool box. It is engineered to support up to 300 pounds of evenly distributed weight like snow. When driving, there shouldn’t be any weight on the cover. Our solid aluminum design offers robust protection for your cargo. However, it is not designed to walk on or to haul cargo on. Only 35 pounds on most trucks. One person can quick-release the cover. With aluminum, you get a lot of strength without much weight.
When retracted, the Peragon cover is the most compact retractable design for maximum cargo space. On most models the cover comes out from the front of the bed about 6″ and hangs down into the bed about 10-11″ on short beds and 11-12″ on midsize to long beds.
It still leaves plenty of clearance to the floor of the bed to slide long items like a piece of plywood all the way to the front. The panels require some extra clearance to fold and unfold.
The bed cover ships in two packages. One contains the guide rails; the other contains the folded bed cover and all hardware.
The guide rail package is approximately 82″ x 5″ x 4″ and weighs approximately 15 pounds. The folded bed cover package is approximately 65″ x 20″ x 9″ and weighs approximately 60 pounds.
The Peragon cover uses sealed ball bearing rollers for impressively smooth operation in all seasons. In winter conditions, other retractable tonneau covers can experience real problems. However, the Peragon cover is made in Northern Wisconsin and engineered for the worst winter can offer.
Peragon uses a retractable panel system that folds up similar to an accordion into a compact position down into the front of the truck bed. To see the cover in action, please watch our video or visit our retractable feature page.
Yes. We chose to leave the tailgate independent for enhanced convenience. Covers that lock to the tailgate can be more hassle than they are worth. The hardware they attach to the tailgate creates a problem when sliding cargo in or out of your bed.
Although rare, there are some models of trucks that we do not offer a cover for. It is possible that we may offer a fit for those trucks in the future. When a model becomes available, our website will be updated immediately to save you the time of inquiring.
You can get a Peragon truck cover in Classic Black or our Xtreme Ruggedized Powdercoat™ matte black.

Yes. Each panel is completely isolated from the next with a rubber seal that prevents any metal-to-metal contact. We dislike rattles as much as you do.
As with all retractable truck bed covers, you will get water seepage along the sides and, of course, around your tailgate. If the cover sits for an extended period in a steady rain, you’re going to notice leakage. The aluminum panels are sealed against each other with automotive quality EPDM rubber seals.
Retractable covers offer unmatched flexibility for hauling and security, but they are not waterproof. They require some common sense when packing, putting items like tools or electronics into totes for extra protection. That’s the straight answer, and don’t believe a company that tells you otherwise.

Yes. Key lock protection comes standard on our Classic Edition cover. Our Platinum and LimitedHD Editions offer more robust security with a steel dual deadbolt system.
However, the cover and locking options only provide a deterrent to theft, they do not prevent it.
We pride ourselves on having service second to none and our service doesn’t end after the hard-top truck bed cover is installed. The Classic Edition Peragon Bed Cover is covered by a one-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. The Platinum Edition increases that warranty to 3 years and LimitedHD Edition to 5 years.
While the chances of you experiencing any problems with your cover are slim, we work quickly to resolve anything that doesn’t live up to our warranty.
Classic, Platinum & LimitedHD share many of the core features central to the Peragon experience. Every Peragon bed cover is constructed from solid aluminum, easily retracts in seconds and quick-releases in 30 seconds or less giving you access to your entire bed. We’ve designed our editions to allow for the greatest customization and maximize the factory-direct value to you. Whichever edition you choose, it comes ready-to-rock.
For the best explanation of the differences between editions, select your truck and visit the product page and scroll down to “Which edition is right for me?”
The LimitedHDx Edition can be secured in multiple partially open positions.
If you can assemble a bike, you can install a Peragon cover. Step-by-step instructions with clear diagrams walk you through the process. We also have convenient Peragon installation videos. We’re just a toll-free call away if you have questions. A “real world” estimate of install time is 2-3 hours. Unlike covers that claim to take an hour or less, our estimate includes unpacking, sorting the parts and reviewing the instructions. There are three basic steps to installing the cover:

Spray-in liners are fully compatible, even sprayed over-the-rail. The BedRug is fully compatible. Under-the-rail plastic drop-in liners will work fine, with some requiring minor modification. If the plastic liner wraps over the front of the bed or over the tailgate, that’s fine too. Over-the-rail plastic liners that wrap over the sides of the truck bed may not be compatible or may require extensive modification.
No problem. Factory molded plastic caps like Dodge, Ford and Toyota use, as well as most plastic or metal aftermarket caps, are fine. They do not need to be removed.
There are many styles of bed extenders. If yours rotates out of the bed and onto the tailgate, our rails will probably prevent its use. You may be able to detach the extender, move it onto the tailgate and reattach it. If your extender folds back, it may be compatible. Please contact us for more information.
The Peragon bed cover will work with fifth wheel hitches if the highest point of the hitch is at least one inch below the top of the truck bed.
You will also need to examine the full range of movement of your trailer (including turns onto an inclined driveway and sharp turns while backing the trailer on inclines) to ensure you have the clearance needed. Our rails protrude about 3″ on both sides of the truck and they rise 1″ above the bed rail. If necessary, the fifth wheel hitch may be adjusted to increase the space between the trailer and the truck bed rails.
More details here.
Most toolboxes are not compatible with the Peragon cover. Our cover retracts down into the front of the bed. Conventional toolboxes placed next to the cab use the space our cover needs to operate. It is not possible to modify or customize our cover to work with these tool boxes.
Tool boxes that mount on rails in the floor of the bed that can be moved back may be compatible. If you’re interested in a different type of tool box, consider the SwingCase brand.
Peragon is not able to offer custom fits for older or modified truck beds.
TECTONIC™ DUAL-MOTION FOLDING COVER
Tectonic™ panels are crafted from laser welded .080” -H32 solid aluminum, with 50% greater tensile strength than alloy aluminum and welded together, with structural support beams underneath each panel. Hinges and tie-downs are machined from -T6 Aircraft Grade Aluminum with Type III UV Resistant Anodizing (architectural grade) and ready to stand up to anything mother nature can throw at them. Tectonic™ is then both powdercoated for incredible adhesion and finished with a spray-on bedliner finish.
Tectonic™ is built with the highest quality components ever used on a truck bed cover. From machined aluminum components and solid -H32 (50% greater tensile strength than ) aluminum panels, it’s built like a tank. Tectonic™ is built to carry on top and complete with machined aluminum tie-downs. For more information on hauling on top, review your owner’s manual.
Tectonic™ can haul loads up to 400 lbs. (evenly distributed and securely strapped down), which works out to 135 lbs per panel. For off road use, the load rating is 70 lbs per panel due to the unpredictable nature of off road conditions. The static load rating (parked) for Tectonic™ is 600 lbs. (evenly distributed). For more information on hauling on top, review your owner’s manual.

Your order will be shipped via FedEx Freight Direct. This means that your order will be secured to a pallet and shipped using a truck with a lift gate so that it can be delivered to your residential location. Freight is the preferred method for shipping large items in order to prevent damage to your order.
One of the original goals behind Tectonic™ was to ensure that it was easy to operate, yet built robustly (which oftentimes means heavy). Tectonic™ achieves both of these objectives by never requiring that you lift and fold an entire stack of heavy panels. Tectonic™ only requires that you fold one panel at a time and the entire stack can glide back and forth. Just about anyone can operate Tectonic™.
Tectonic™ is the first Dual-Motion bed cover ever created. It’s divided into three robust panels, with the cab and tailgate panels first folding into the middle. From there, you can glide the entire panel stack fore and aft to access any part of your bed. With Tectonic™, there is truly no bed space utilized by the cover and you can pack your bed to the brim.
Yes. We chose to leave the tailgate independent for enhanced convenience. Covers that lock to the tailgate can be more hassle than they are worth. The hardware they attach to the tailgate creates a problem when sliding cargo in or out of your bed.
If we don’t currently offer a Tectonic™ model for your truck, we suggest signing up for the waitlist. Signing up helps us gauge interest and we’ll be able to keep you in the loop as we continue to roll out new models. To do so, visit the product page, select your truck and you’ll be prompted to sign up for notifications regarding the product.
Yes, Tectonic™ is quiet when driving with the cover closed during on-road use. Some rattling may be heard when traveling with the cover in the folded open position.
While our covers are engineered to provide excellent protection against rain and dust, complete waterproofing is not guaranteed due to the design of truck beds and various external factors (gaps in tailgates, wavy bed rail caps, etc.). That said, many customers have reported that their Tectonic™ cover keeps their truck bed dry even in harsh conditions. With proper installation, you can expect reliable protection from the elements and dry gear.
Yes, Tectonic™ has two key-operated latches–one on the cab and one on the tailgate panel. These latches operate very similarly to your car door with a soft latching feature.
We designed Tectonic™ to have a truly painless installation. It can be done by someone with no experience in roughly 30 minutes. For full installation instructions, click here.
No special tools are needed for installation! You will need scissors, a ½” wrench or socket, and a 7/16” wrench.
Spray-in liners are fully compatible, even sprayed over-the-rail. The BedRug is fully compatible. Peragon cannot guarantee fitment with all plastic bed liners and modifications may be required.
No problem. Factory molded plastic caps like Dodge, Ford and Toyota use, as well as most plastic or metal aftermarket caps, are fine. They do not need to be removed.
Tectonic™ is not currently compatible with all fifth wheel/gooseneck setups due to the width and height of the panels when stacked onto each other.
Crossover toolboxes are not compatible with Tectonic™. Toolboxes that sit below the truck bed rail by 1.5 inches will be compatible.
